Evanston Police arrested a parolee Monday after he allegedly snatched a Louis Vuitton purse from a vehicle waiting to be washed.
Steven Elmo Hatfield, of the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue, stole the $2,600 purse from a vehicle at a car wash in the 2200 block of Ashland Avenue, police said. The Wilmette woman who owned the purse got out of her vehicle and chased Hatfield. He ultimately returned the item.
The 44-year-old Hatfield, a convicted retail thief, was charged with burglary and is scheduled to appear in court April 16.
